The research project titled "Community-based Narratives and Public Experiential Engagement for Cultural and Historical Heritage Conservation and Revitalisation of Yim Tin Tsai, Sai Kung" is organised by The Chinese University of Hong Kong and funded by the Countryside Conservation Office and Countryside Conservation Funding Scheme. Since its launch in January 2022, it has gained strong support from the villagers, stakeholders and also the general public. Over the past year, we have collected rural stories, which contained personal and collective memories of many villagers, stakeholders and alumni of rural school.In 2023, we will hold a one-year Yim Tin Tsai cultural and historical story tour. We are recruiting a group of young storytellers to pass on these valuable stories to more people.

Learning Objectives:

• Becoming a storyteller, assisting the team with the cultural and historical story tour, and guiding the public to experience the story of the old village of Yim Tin Tsai
• Communicate with the public, record their interesting story experience and event feedback
• Assisting the public in exploring the 'Cultural and Historical Narrative Map of Yim Tin Tsai Community Engagement’

Qualifications:

• Full-time students in universities and post-secondary institutions in Hong Kong
• Interested in the topic of rural conservation and rehabilitation
• Strong communication skills and leadership
• Responsible, patient and great adaptability
• Priority for applicants fluent in the three languages (Cantonese, Mandarin, and English)

On-site assessment:

Feb 4/ Feb 5 10:00- 17:00
Assessment format: A group of three will divide the work within one hour to depict a story about a specific theme in the village, and guests will provide opinions and feedback

Internship Period:

It will be held on designated Fridays or Weekends in 2023. Each storyteller needs to lead public experience groups at least 3 times (about 20 participants each with a duration of 3 hours, led by three storytellers). Those who complete will be awarded certificates and internship allowances.
